Settle or Affect
You have two options in this world, one, focus on you directly and focus on you indirectly. Option one is what you see the most, people who spend most of their time thinking about their career, their house, their renovated bathroom, their car, their toys, basically every thing that effects the individual. Option two is the people that are actually making this world a better place. They are the ones that are focused on those around them, their environment, their family, basically everything that effects that which effects the individual.
If you didn't catch that, here's an example... someone goes out on a day off to do something but cannot find anything to do, thus complaining that there is nothing to do. Well, take this person and give that attitude to the majority of the population and you get a shitty town, because nobody is doing anything. Now, if said person realized this, what do you think they would do?
The logical thing would be to make something happen for other people to do. You copy this thinking to the majority of the population and you have a great town.
In summary, focus on those are around you who will in turn focus on you. It's what I call righteous selfishness.
... and I'm not saying I'm righteously selfish, lately I've been leaning towards option one and I want to change.

funny thing is i used to be number 1 because i thought that there was nothing out side of my little world, it could have been my upbringing, it could have been the fact that i always listened to others when they said i could never amount to anything. its actually liberating being number 2...who would've thought. quality of life goes up, even if you may not be helping the world for selfish reasons it makes you personally feel better so does it become selfish anyways?
